Aggressive West Virginia Trial Attorneys Seek Compensation in Roundup Cases
When your children play in your yard or you work in your garden or on your farm, you have a right to believe the chemicals you’ve used to kill weeds are safe when used as directed.
Many homeowners and landscapers have used Roundup, a popular weed-killing product containing glyphosate. Unfortunately, that ingredient is now thought to be carcinogenic, leading multiple juries.
Roundup contributed to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in plaintiffs who’ve sued the former manufacturer, Monsanto, and Bayer, who purchased Monsanto in 2018.
At the Prim Law Firm in Hurricane, we represent West Virginians who’ve become ill after using Roundup. If you or a family member has been affected, our product liability attorneys are ready to fight for the compensation you deserve.
Roundup Lawsuits Multiplied
To date, more than 1,290 lawsuits and claims on behalf of more than 18,400 people have been filed against Monsanto and Bayer alleging Roundup caused non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
California juries have handed up massive verdicts, including a $2 billion award in May 2019 to a husband and wife who both contracted the disease after regular use of the product.
Cases have been consolidated as a mass tort in federal court, and efforts toward a global settlement of all Roundup claims are underway.
Monsanto still maintains that glyphosate — the most widely used herbicide in the world — poses no health risks to users and that claim is echoed by the Environmental Protection Agency.
However, other studies and the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer have found the herbicide to be a likely carcinogen — an agent capable of causing cancer.
Moreover, Monsanto is alleged to have known about and covered up the risk of cancer from Roundup.
Plaintiffs claim that the company:
- Knew for decades that Roundup could cause cancer
- Funded research to prove the safety of Roundup weed killer
- Monitored and discredited journalists and activists who attempted to bring forth evidence that Roundup was dangerous
When product manufacturers know about the dangers their products pose and then disregard those risks and fail to warn consumers about them, people injured by those products can seek damages through a product liability suit.
Potential compensation may include past and future lost wages, medical expenses, pain and suffering, and punitive damages. Knowing about, disregarding and hiding the risk to consumers of Roundup is the sort of malicious conduct that led juries to award punitive damages in these cases.
If you or a loved one suspects a product has injured you or made you ill, our seasoned product liability attorneys will seek the full compensation you deserve.
